This urban revitalization project in El Verger is the result of winning first prize in an architectural competition. The proposal was selected for its ability to transform a fragmented urban space into a dynamic, multifunctional meeting point that improves both physical connectivity and the quality of life for residents. The distinction earned in the competition reflects the value of the design in its holistic approach, which connects two parallel streets, overcomes the existing barrier between them, and provides an enriched spatial experience for the community.

The award-winning project includes distinctive architectural elements, such as the traditional terraces, which respond to the topography and turn the difference in level into a functional and aesthetic resource. These steps not only facilitate transit between different levels, but also provide rest and observation areas, where users can enjoy the plaza from different perspectives.

The design is also notable for incorporating a stage at the heart of the plaza, which acts as a visual anchor and central space for community events. This perimeter and centralized configuration allows the plaza to be a versatile space, adapting to the cultural, social and recreational needs of the residents of El Verger. The winning proposal guarantees a safe, welcoming and multifunctional plaza, in line with the competition’s objective of encouraging projects that respond creatively and effectively to the urban demands of the locality.
