First Prize in the Contest for the Adequacy of a Public Square in El Verger.
We are pleased to announce that work has begun on the refurbishment of the public square in El Verger (Alicante) after winning first prize in the design competition. This exciting project represents a significant improvement for the local community, with an innovative proposal that seeks to transform the urban space and enrich the quality of life in the area.
The proposed intervention focuses on physically and visually linking two parallel streets that are currently disconnected, providing greater spatial and urban cohesion to the environment. The goal is to create a space that not only improves the functionality of the area, but also enriches the experience of citizens interacting with the environment.
One of the distinctive elements of the design is the fixed bench-like seating. These structures take advantage of the difference in level between the lanes to provide a multifunctional solution that acts as seating, rest areas and observation points. These bleachers not only facilitate a better visual connection between the two levels, but also create a flexible central space that can be adapted for a variety of community activities and events.
The design includes a stage that serves as an attractive perspective backdrop, enhancing the visual appeal of the space and providing a focal point for events and activities. This element is fundamental to the functionality of the area, allowing the space to be used in a dynamic and versatile manner.
The perimeter circulation of the space has been carefully planned to protect the area from vehicular traffic, creating a safe and accessible environment for pedestrians. This circulation also contributes to the flexibility of the space, allowing it to easily adapt to different needs and uses, from community events to daily recreational activities.
In short, the adaptation of the public square in El Verger not only seeks to improve the spatial and urban quality of the environment, but also to create a welcoming and multifunctional space that encourages interaction and enjoyment for residents. We are excited to see this project come to life and contribute to revitalizing the area, providing a new center of activity and gathering for the community.
